Starting this thread as an antidote to all the heavy 'sole searching' on some Australian threads here at present
Thought it might be just winter and we need to think about spring?

    Anyway I will start
Chiltern seeds have a graet general ornamental catalogue that is a delight to read.
You have to seach for the Permaculture stuff but it is a botanical education.
I read it in the bath
    Richters
I grow any herb i have not grown before, to see if it can stop me killing it. This is one very good supplier with a most extensive list/cat.

Green harvest is pretty good. Still can't find a herb place that sells Damiana seeds. Anyone know of one?

    Hi Mich,

No they are out of stock on the plants. If you get on to green harvest website, you can request a catalogue and they will send one to you. They come out every June. They have lots of good stuff.

In NZ, I love Kings seeds catalogue.
Good pics, well written writeups on the plants, states whether the seed is heirloom, open pollinated or hybrid.

At Purple Pear we use mostly Eden/Select Organic. We love the ethic and feel of Alf Finch operation and the catalogue is well presented. We have had best results from propagating their seeds (except for onions this year)

You should probably tell them that
I used to buy commercial quantities of seed from Royston Petrie Seeds Pty Ltd They did all their own testing of germination, and would be interested if there was a problem
One "trouble" with organic seed is that it is more prone to fiungal diseases like 'damping off' and really needs to be sown in a sterile media before/when planting

I can't really grow too much on my balcony - it's the first growing season I've had on it and the sunlight's a bit sketchy.. so what I decide to plant I have to pick rather carefully!

I use diggers, primarily because they're informative and they seem to have a nice variety of things.

If you're really invested in getting good seeds - they have a good collection of them and they have a pretty good germination rate.
I've ordered plants from them too and they've survived interstate travel very well!

If you buy in seeds and plants a lot I think it's worth it - they have good articles/ videos on their website for members, send out catalogues in the mail every few months and often give away free seeds which is nice.

Supposedly they're also organic and have heirloom varieties of many plants too. Purple carrots om nom nom...

If you're only buying off them as a once off I wouldn't recommend spending the extra $50 on membership, I'm pretty sure you can buy things off them without being a member.

I agree PP. I've tried other suppliers but have found eden seeds to have the best germination rates.

I would not bother with Diggers again as I've never had much success with theirs.

I joined Diggers a few years back but didn't use them often enough to make it worth my while.

Have used Eden Seeds this year for the first time and their service has been terrific. Just got a second order delivered this morning - like opening a little present :) Seeds from the first order that I have started in my hothouse have begun to germinate quite well.
