Side holes on wicking beds

    I am wondering why no one seems to make tiny holes on the side of wicking beds if aeration is needed. Will this affect the wicking process?
    Since we are in a hot weather I am thinking of using breathable containers Like thick breathable canvass. What could be the possible pros and cons?
