Hi all, Looking for literature on raising poultry. (specifically chooks and ducks) There are that many books on the market that it makes it impossible to chose. Anyone have any recommendations for books for raising poultry in aus.
I don't own these two books but from my limited research, they seemed like the best of a bunch (completely subjective). Backyard Poultry Naturally - Moore ($27 discounted) Jackie French's Chook Book - French ($15 discounted)
Don't worry about the books. Buy chooks and they'll soon teach you the ropes. There's plenty of good info on line.
With you guys all the way. Do take a look at Geoff Lawton's amazing recent video on poultry too. Together with his revolutionary chicken tractor idea, there's more insight and wisdom in keeping poultry than you'll ever find in conventional literature. Just one word of advice; don't go in for any of the modern commercial hybrids - they've had many of the natural instincts bred out of them and they're only good for one or two seasons, then they're clapped out. With so many old breeds available in Australia, UK and USA you're spoiled for choice.
