This is an interesting article outlining feedlot practices in Australia. https://www.feedlots.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=118
I was watching a doco on the ABC on Sunday night that showed a feedlot. It just reaffirmed why I bother paying extra for free range meat. Terrible thing to do to an animal.
They all die with a bolt fired into the brain - terrible thing to do to an animal. (Sorry, naughty vegetarian - had to get that one in! lol)
As an animal I vote to go that way instead of hanging around with cancer, dementia or heart issues. (naughty logical animal - had to get that one in!)

I was at a friend's place over the weekend. Her 4 year old told me that chooks lay eggs, the farmer takes them to the shops and then we buy them. So far so good. Then we put the bacon in the pan and she told me 'Pigs lay bacon, and the farmer takes it to the shops and then we buy it'. Boy is she in for a surprise when mum tells her what really happens!
I thought you shaved it off like shearing a sheep - that's why is so thin. Seriously though, anyone actually implemented Mollison's pigs and bullrush system?
I just turned on "Rural Ag News" and saw comments about Bacon, Cattle, and Corn. What concerned me is that they said something about a high amount of toxins are being found, but didn't catch what kind. It also disturbed me that the news show also suggested proudly to gouge the customer 2nd & 3rd quarter of next year. Eco, Sepp keeps his piggies in terraced hedgerows with earthen shelters for the pigs at night. The area is surrounded by foods that they can forage for with all sorts of plants like Bulrush around the water, ground nut, and more in his terraced orchards. In addition, on these terraces, and all over the Kramterhoff he has made all sorts of ponds and water features, some by the use of pigs, then planted with Bulrush for feeding organic matter as well as cleaning the water. At least that is what I remember. Bulrush is also known as Cattail, or from the same family of sedges. Cattail / Bulrush has tons of uses.
