I am new to this site. I just recently signed up for permaculture classes and I am so excited to get started on my sandy, but sunny, soil. I hope to find a lot of good advice on this forum. I am a little overwhelmed with the wealth of information available. I am open to any and all help!
Welcome Carrie, What classes are you signed up for? Tell us a bit about your property and what you hope to accomplish.
i have a friend who gardens in FL. he keeps busy pretty much all year, but there are certain times when some things go better than others for certain crops. his issues are shade from trees that he doesn't want to remove and the fungi/mildews that can get going. he uses some iron compound to help lower the soil pH and water is always in short supply (they've hardly had any rain this season). root knot nematodes can be put out of balance but there are predatory nematodes he uses to supplement his gardens too. grasshoppers too... it is getting late for cool weather anything down there. i'm sure he's moved on to okras and the other hot weather crops he grows by now. he doesn't do much with fruit/nut trees. those are things i can think of off hand.
