Permaculture Design Certificate Course

The 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) Course allows you to be the change you want to see in the world. Based on Bill Mollison’s Permaculture Designers’ Manual, it provides skills and solid knowledge in Permaculture design as a science that can create abundant ecosystems sustainably in the backyard, a small farm or on a larger broad acre landscape.

The problems of the world are becoming increasingly complex but the answers remain embarrassingly simple.

Bill Mollison

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Permaculture integrates land, resources, people and the environment through mutually beneficial synergies – imitating the no waste, closed loop systems seen in diverse natural systems. Permaculture studies and applies holistic solutions that are applicable in rural and urban contexts at any scale. It is a multidisciplinary toolbox including agriculture, water harvesting and hydrology, energy, natural building, forestry, waste management, animal systems, aquaculture, appropriate technology, economics and community development.

To date, thousands of permaculture designers have been certified through this course. They now comprise a global network of educators, ecological activists, individuals and groups of committed people working together to change the way we view and design our landscapes. These Permaculture designers influence major corporations and create new business alternatives.

The course covers sustainable living systems for a wide variety of landscapes and climates. It includes the application of Permaculture principles to food production, home design, construction, energy conservation and generation, and explores alternative economic structures and legal strategies supporting permaculture solutions.

Bonus

As a special bonus, we are offering all July PDC participants access to the online PDC by Geoff Lawton. This is a brand new course filmed in the last year with nearly 500 instructional modules, including blackboard-style videos, rich animations, weekly Q&A, and detailed PDFs. Geoff’s offering this to PDC participants as a way to fast forward and rewind your classroom learning. Many PDC participants feel that they are learning so much that they won’t be able to take it all in. Geoff wants to make sure that you can make the most of these learning experiences by accessing the online PDC from when you sign up to the face-to-face course. Access to the online course will be given until the end of 2017. This course is normally sold for $1000 US, but as July PDC participant you’ll receive access to it absolutely free. There are limited spaces remaining on the PDC so sign up now to make the most of this offer.

Other Teachers

Zaytuna Farm has a number of active teaching and support staff, including interns within the PRI diploma program. Interns and staff are mentored by Geoff and will support him throughout this course.

Future Studies and Opportunities

The PDC serves as a foundation for further permaculture work and study and is a prerequisite for the Diploma in Permaculture Design, offered through The Permaculture Institute. Credit for this course is now accepted by a growing number of universities around the world.

ABOUT THE LOCATION

This PDC will be taught at Zaytuna Farm, home of The Permaculture Research Institute in The Channon, Northern NSW. As one of the leading Permaculture demonstration sites in the world, Zaytuna Farm has a range of functioning systems including water harvesting, food production, and a very productive animal husbandry. All of which will add to the learning experience and make this course a very rich experience and one not to be missed.

Scholarships

Historically many PDC’s have, where viable, provided low/no cost scholarships to those from developing countries or communities. At PRI Australia, we support this endeavour by actively providing sponsorship positions at our Master Plan sites in developing countries. Course fees from PRI Australia off-set the cost/s of teaching those in desperate need.

INCLUDED IN YOUR FEES

PDC-CertificateYour fees include camping accommodation (in self-provided tents), full catering with three meals per day plus morning and afternoon tea, after hours internet access, and an abundance of Permaculture examples throughout the permaculture demonstration farm.

A Permaculture Design Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion.

WHY DO YOUR PDC WITH the Permaculture Research Institute?

We live what we teach

Zaytuna Farm is Geoff and Nadia’s home. Permaculture is their life. They are farmers, teachers, and designers who actively pursue positive change in this world within their everyday lives and they are willing and able to share that with you for a more resilient future.

World Class Teachers

Geoff Lawton is the foremost permaculture consultant, designer and teacher and founder of the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia. You will not find a better teacher than Geoff and he is supported by highly active and engaging staff, most of which live and teach alongside Geoff and Nadia at Zaytuna Farm.

The Farm

Zaytuna Farm is a highly active Permaculture demonstration site. It is at the forefront of Permaculture Design and as a student, you will have the unique experience of learning in a place where all the principles are there for you to see, every day of your course. You will also have the opportunity to pitch in before and after class and get a little dirty with some hands-on experience.

Support

We support our graduates in a number of ways. We have developed the Global Permaculture Network. Here you will find an interactive database of permaculture practitioners, teachers, consultants and aid workers from all over the world. The potential for constructive networking here is enormous! Create regular updates on your own Worldwide Permaculture Network blog under your profile, to get noticed, receive friendship, encouragement, and tips.

Results

One of Geoff’s favourite phrases is “getting a result” and his results on the ground and with students is impressive. The quality of a PDC course is not evidenced in the teacher, but in how active the students are able to implement the designs after they leave the course and Geoff has the most active PDC students in the world.

History

Geoff’s work is based on the permaculture principles laid down in the 1970s by Australian permaculture founder Bill Mollison.

Why do a PDC at Zaytuna Farm? Because it’s a permaculture paradise with amazing people sharing their knowledge and wisdom.

Heli

This group has done more for the cause of permaculture than any other I know of.

I had a wonderful time, 3 things in particular: – I was honored that Geoff and Nadia allowed us to intrude upon their personal living space (some of us come from much different places with different upbringings) – Having the opportunity to slaughter and process our food in a respectful manner (I don’t know of anywhere in Australia that teaches this basic human process) – and seeing Geoff and Nadia with Latifa around the farm, still working, a big contrast…

Michael Wright

This is a WONDERFUL SITE. I AM READY TO MOVE. :)

Latifa Abdul-Royal

To be introduced to permaculture, it’s great to be surrounded by it.

Andrea

Passion, commitment, and intensity can be felt in every footstep on Zaytuna farm. If you are wanting to jump-start your permaculture experience and understanding of natural systems then trust your internal dialog and go.

Nicholas Burtner

Love this site.

Michael Marchal

I have learned so much just from what they provide for free on the web. I cant wait to go there in person so I can complete my Permaculture training and education I love this institute and all of the work that they do

Dominique D Roseberry

The best permaculture site to learn from.

Taufiq Bin Jemain

I headed to Australia in January of 2010 to study permaculture with Geoff and Nadia Lawton at Zaytuna Farm. There was nowhere in the U.S. to go and study water harvesting techniques, so I traveled to the Southern hemisphere. I had taken my PDC three years before and was working in the realm of non-profit sustainability education, and was looking to expand my practical skillset, particularly in the area of water harvesting earthworks and perennial polyculture. The three months that…
