A Guide to 4 Medicinal Herbs

The uses and advantages of turmeric, kratom, cannabis and American ginseng as herbal medicine

Naturally occurring, plant-derived substances, which are used to treat diseases, are called herbal medicines or medicinal herbs. These herbal medicine products are usually complex mixtures of organic chemicals that may come from both raw and processed parts of plants. Herbal medicine has roots in almost every culture of the world, and there are many different systems of traditional medicine, that are used or have been used in the past.

The philosophy and practices of these different systems are influenced by the social cultures they develop in, but almost all of these systems agree on a holistic approach to life. Traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine are some of the most popular herbal medicine systems. Both these systems believe in the central idea that the main emphasis should be on health rather than on disease. The idea is to give more importance to the use of herbal medicine to avoid disease in the first place.

Although botanical and herbal medicine is an art that has been practised for thousands of years, it still continues to be very common and effective in the modern world. According to the World Health Organisation, it has been recently estimated that around 80 percent of people worldwide rely on herbal medicines for their primary health care in one form or another, and the annual market for these products worldwide is approaching around $60 billion.

People in the United States and Canada have also become more interested in herbal medicine recently, because of the awareness about the side effects of normal pharmaceuticals, and the rising cost of prescription medication. People are developing a renewed interest in natural or organic remedies instead of drugs.

Here is a list of some common natural medicinal remedies, and their advantages:

Turmeric

The turmeric plant has a very long history of medicinal use. The earliest records of turmeric being used as a medicine can be traced back to 4000 years ago. Modern herbal medicine has also recognised its importance and benefits. In recent years, around 3000 reports have been published dealing with the medicinal benefits of turmeric. The root of this powerful plant can be added to any recipe or taken as a supplement.

The turmeric root has great antiseptic properties, and it has been used to dress wounds for centuries. Turmeric also has the ability to slow and prevent blood clotting, reduce inflammation, relieve arthritis pain, regulate cholesterol, manage diabetes, fight depression, treat gastrointestinal issues and even fight cancer.

Almost everyone knows about the cannabis plant. For a long time, it was considered to be a drug for recreational use only, but in recent years many pieces of research and studies have been done on the plant which show its potential in the medical field. The compounds like CBD, which are extracted from the cannabis plant, have proven to be very effective in helping people with pain management.

Cannabis has been proven to be very helpful for arthritis patients, and patients with chronic pain. Cannabis is also quite helpful in helping patients with extreme anxiety and depression. Cannabis is also quite useful for cancer patients, as it can significantly reduce the side effects of conventional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy.

American ginseng

American ginseng is classified as an adaptogen. An adaptogen is actually a substance that is good for the body in general, and protects against stress of different types. This type of ginseng has been used for a long time to strengthen the immune system, treat digestive disorders, treat diabetes, increase strength, and stamina, treat ADHD, and as a general tonic for good health.

Many people believe that the state of Wisconsin, in the US, produces the best American ginseng. American ginseng is considered to have a cooling effect, whereas Korean ginseng has more of a warming effect on the body. American ginseng should be avoided by people, who have high blood pressure, and it is also not good for pregnant women.
