Why Homesteading is an Ideal Lifestyle

There are many, many reasons why homesteading is truly the ideal, simplistic lifestyle. It may not be for everyone, but it’s no lie that this kind of lifestyle creates an intimate relationship between you and your life and the work you do. For those still on the fence about it, here are just a small few reasons why you should consider stripping off those conveniences and getting back to nature, and “old-fashioned” methods of living.

It’s Fulfilling

You’ve probably heard many people say that hard work is satisfying. Homesteading is, at its core, fairly hard work. It’s long days spent tending to gardens, caring for and feeding animals and livestock, preserve produce and dozens of other daily chores. But those who live this lifestyle will tell you, it’s fulfilling work.

There’s no feeling in the world quite like taking a big bite out of the food you’ve grown and tended to with your own two hands, or meat you’ve treated yourself. Nothing compares to wearing clothes that you’ve made, from the wool you sheared from a sheep. You get to enjoy the fruits of your labor with this lifestyle, real tangible results of your hard work that you get to enjoy every day.

It’s Good for the Environment

Homesteading truly makes a difference and impacts many things in positive ways. By collecting rainwater in buckets and creating a drip irrigation system, you can water your gardens without using water from the grid and racking up a water bill. You can purify and drink it, you can cook with it, and even bathe and run toilets with it. Collecting and using rainwater helps decrease your carbon footprint, as well. You don’t have to drive anywhere to get produce that was shipped from far away locations. It all comes from your back yard.

Many people who homestead embrace alternative energy sources, such as wind turbines and solar panels. This decreases energy costs significantly, and can even eliminate it entirely. Not only that, but you help conserve fossil fuels, and by driving less and using less energy from the grid you reduce carbon emissions.

It’s Empowering

A homesteading lifestyle requires lots of hard work, and in a society that prizes luxury it really stands out. It is far more than just growing a garden, or caring for some animals. Homesteading is about living for yourself, taking care of your family and living the life you choose, directing it with your own two hands instead of letting society tell you how to dress, where to eat and shop, and what to do.

It is a healthier, simpler way of living. You know what goes into your food, you know how your animals were treated, and you know how everything was preserved or cared for. There are no surprises there. Not only that, but it focuses more on the things you need, rather than what you want. Removes us from the hustle and bustle of the capitalist drive for more and more money.

Homesteading is incredibly empowering for these reasons and many more. Working the land, raising livestock and preserving your own foods. Building structures, making your own clothes and fulfilling all the needs of yourself and your family with your own two hands. There’s nothing else in the world that compares to how satisfying that is. When you live a homesteading lifestyle, you lay your head down on your pillow at night knowing that you’ve accomplished something important, done something that helped not only you and your family, but the environment as well.

Hard work should be seen as the precursor of a gratifying and satisfying reward/s but not many examples of that in government or media
