Permaculture Open Day at Caroola Farm (May 4, 2014 – NSW, Australia)

Caroola Farm (map) is hosting an open day celebrating permaculture, sustainability and local food / community resilience on Sunday 4 May, 2014 (International Permaculture Day). The vision for the day is to provide a selection of permaculture talks on subjects such as garden design, water management, passive heating / solar, healthy animal husbandry and more…. In addition there will be farm tours, information tents, local produce for sale, food tastings and more.

Our Background

Caroola Farm is a new permaculture farm located on the Kings Highway at Mulloon. We are in the process of establishing forest gardens, integrated animal systems, tree systems, aquaculture, fruit and nut areas and holistic grazing. We have a range of systems already in place and quite a few on the go.

We are conveniently located between the two major centres of Palerang; Bungendore and Braidwood. Given our location and the volume of traffic that utilises the highway we are keen to host a permaculture open day on Sunday 4 May, inviting other local producers, permaculturalists and sustainability related businesses to attend.

Target Market

  • Braidwood, Bungendore, Tarago and surrounds
  • Canberra
  • South Coast (Batemans Bay and surrounds)

We propose marketing via local newspaper articles, advertisements and posters in local shops as well as via website and social media.

Program Overview

  • 10am to 4pm
  • ½ hour talks every hour on a range of sustainability related subjects by self nominated individuals who would like to be involved
  • Displays, market tents and stalls of sustainability related information or produce (there will be no charge for the displays and there is the opportunity to sell produce and of course promote your own enterprise)
  • Farm tours in the morning and afternoon — approx 10:30 am and 2:30pm
  • Entertainment for children to create a family day out
  • Entry will be by donation

Being involved on the day provides you with an opportunity to reach new customers, meet like minded people, promote your own venture, build community networks and swap or buy other local producers’ goods!

Short Talks (15 mins to 30 mins)

We have around six slots available for short talks. These will be on the hour or half hour depending on the length of the talks. These will be scheduled so they don’t overlap with farm tours.

Email us your expression of interest with:

  • Your time preference
  • Topic
  • A little about the speaker
  • Length of talk
  • Logo/website
  • Requirements (e.g. power, projector, whiteboard, flipchart)

Marquee (approx. 10 to 15 spots available)

BYO marquee, tables, chairs, display material. We have very limited power available. We are looking for suppliers of local services related to sustainability and/or local producers displaying or selling goods.

Email us your expression of interest with:

  • Business or association name
  • What you plan on displaying or selling
  • Your contact details
  • Logo/website
  • Special requirements (e.g. power, vehicle access, large site)

Food and drink

We are looking for local suppliers of food and drink — i.e. charity or community groups or local businesses. Email us if you would like to set up a stall. Preference is given to sustainable food packaging and minimal waste material.

Children’s entertainment

We are looking for local suppliers of children’s entertainment (maybe it’s not even your business, but you’d like to be involved). Activities should be sustainable e.g. making a seedling pot, animal petting etc.

Get Involved

If you would like to be involved in any capacity, please drop us a note at penny (at) caroolafarm.com.au to register your interest.

One Comment

  1. As always with such events. It would be great to be there! An idea for you and us that costs no money: Build a wooden frame, squeeze in a device with a camera, hang it in a web like the one of a dreamcatcher with feaders and stuff… Put it on wheels (a wheelbarrow ,ll do), make it an option for your guests to share there knowledge with the world. Post the talks and other interessting details on youtube… Greetings from belgium
