The Course

Silk Road Permaculture is endeavoring to spread the ethics of permaculture throughout Central Asia. With the natural ecosystem as our guide it is possible to find new ways to improve our current living systems, increase production, and even introduce new species that are useful to us. Our goal is not just to rehabilitate land here in Central Asia, but also to improve the lives of those living and working on that land. The easiest way to accomplish this goal is to teach the PDC to as many people as we can. The Permaculture Design course is a 72-hour course taught over a 2-week time span. The course gives an introduction to the permaculture principles set forth by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, but in a way that places special emphasis on the continental climate typically experienced in much of Central Asia. By the end of this 2-week PDC course you will have all the information you need to design systems that follow permaculture principles. Your certificate will allow you to not only design in the permaculture world, but to also teach students of your own. This course will be co-taught by Silk Road Permaculture director, Amadeus DeKastle and co-founder, Calvin Lawrence.

Amadeus DeKastle has been fascinated by permaculture principles for as long as he can remember. Starting at an early age he began studying Entomology. His interests soon began to flood over into Ecology, which opened up the doors to permaculture. He received degrees in both Environmental Biology and Education before going on to take a PRI PDC from the internationally known Mustafa Bakir in 2012. He currently lives in Kyrgyzstan where he is the co-founder and director of Silk Road Permaculture.

Calvin Lawrence holds a degree in Agriculture with a specialization in animal nutrition and reproduction as well as greenhouse management. He received his PDC from Amadeus DeKastle in 2012 and has been actively involved in many permaculture projects since. He currently lives in Kyrgyzstan where he is a co-founder of Silk Road Permaculture.
