Permaculture Project Aid Worker Training Camp – November 2008

I’m sure not a few of you are keeping tabs on the current state of affairs in the world. Today the price of oil jumped yet again – it’s now sitting on $146 p/barrel. Of course, everything produced that’s dependent on oil for its production and/or distribution (um… that’s just about everything) is going up as well – most significantly, food. If peak oil adherents are correct, and these now include legions of observers, plus politicians and oil industry heads themselves, then the food crisis is set to worsen considerably, and rapidly, over the next few years.

Most industry experts, including geoscientists and economists, who were polled by Samid in 2007 said that peak production will occur by 2010. This contrasted with a similar survey conducted two years earlier, in which respondents were split, with many of the economists opting for a later date. “Now, a real consensus is emerging,” says Samid. – New Scientist

As oil production has actually plateaued since at least 2005, you could be forgiven for saying the peak is already upon us.

There has never been a point in time in the whole of human history where low- or no-input, sustainable food systems were more important than now. If you’re looking for a career with a future, then do consider permaculture – a complete sustainable systems approach for all human need. Indeed, the era of cheap food is over, and its true value and significance will come to be increasingly appreciated over the next months and years.

For those who have already completed a Permaculture Design Certificate course, you may want to consider our latest course announcement – a course specifically targeted at training and preparing workers to fill the growing opportunities opening up to help establish and/or develop new permaculture projects around the world. If you haven’t already done so, also take a peek at our recent Permaculture Master Plan video clip, to give you an overview of the concept.

  1. Someone please help IMPORTANT.
I am a really hard laborer from the USA, and I did complete a perm design course. But school isn’t for me i want to do hard work and receive a fair pay for it. I am reliable and disciplined thanks to the service. I am also a veteran 25yrs old and desperate for a chance to make a new life for myself. I can do exactly what I am told to do within reason with no complaints and plenty of motivation to get the job done. Also informing who ever reads this it would make me overjoyed to perform this work where it is appreciated currently live in the east coast of America. The folks here have the privilege of plentiful resources including that beloved dollar bill. Water harvesting is a confusion to us here. Please send word to my aid for you all. I am passionate about this and love humanity and hands on labor… and food/water/energy!

  3. Where are the details on the course?
I clicked on the graphic on the top of the screen (“Course Alert – Permaculture Project Aid Worker Training Camp”). That took me to an article talking about peak oil and food shortages, with a link to “our latest course announcement”. I clicked on that link, and it says “no articles matching your criteria” or something along those lines. I’m curious where the course is located, what it’s about, and how much it costs.

  4. Hello, can a course be run from
    My house??????

As I have designated two patches of land on our property purely for permaculture (only). About 5 and a half acres in total….. We own a (massive) house which could house a lot of people for a long time, as well as an empty cottage… We live in the sunshine coast hinterland, about 5 mins drive to Crystal waters!
    WE NEED HELP.

    Cam and Judgie
