Permaculture Partner Program in Vietnam

The Social Policy Ecology Research Institute, PRI’s partner organization located in the Ha Tinh province of Vietnam, is running a Farmers’ Field School (FFS) whose mission is to empower indigenous youth and farmers in the Mekong region through learning about nature and landscape and as well as build cross-cultural understanding while addressing global issues such as climate change, community care and loss of biodiversity. FFS is currently being developed into a premier facilitation/demonstration site for sustainability practice in the Mekong region.

FFS encourages interactive understanding between local youth and farmers and the environment through observation, fieldwork, and communication with community elders, farmers, neighbors and family members. This process promotes active networking across generations and locations, helping to establish better community relations.

FFS is located 13 km from the border of Laos on a 420 hectare piece of land which encloses the Rao An River, a local waterfall and surrounding native forests. The highest portion of land contains a sacred forest, followed by a natural museum, which serves as a research and educational centre, with the lowest point of the site containing areas for farming and demonstration. Wooden houses preserved from diverse traditional architecture styles of the Mekong regions serve as living and work areas.

FFS hosts a range of visitors and students, including school children, farmers, researchers, students, academics, environmentalists, social activists, and other people from all over the world who share a common vision towards sustainability. FFS also coordinates interactive forums and discussions.
