Preparing for the (good) health of areas is on the plan, but mostly because we have put it there through increasing a whole body of information, it is now up to all of us as to how we utilize this information for the growth of excellent, healthier, areas and locations.....

    g'day eco',

i'm a bit late in on this one.

but for people at my level(masses), the health system has failed, even a bad toothache takes at least 2 weeks, nothing is urgent, i have had lots of teeth puled took ages to get it done as each tooth had to be in pain, they even pulled 2 on one day that is a big no no! in the system they are only supposed to do one procedure each visit. i went in for some work, the day before all this tartar started peeling off some teeth, they would not take the about 1 second to scrape away the rough edges. stupid rule had to find metal object at home to do the job. now on a 12 month list to try and get some falsies so i can chew properly instead of biting inside of cheek and tongue.

7 years into wait for simple prostrate procedure, live with it 24/7, waiting to have shoulders repaired, and also on a list to see why my arm shakes.

so our institute the gov' the same ones you may have to rely on sometime have failed.

    take care voe carefully.

Unfortunately, Len, health care is the domain of the states and territories, and you just happen to live in one of the more - how can I put this tactfully - 'under resourced' states of Australia. I have lived in Queensland, and as such have seen the system first hand. I also have family that living there, and their reports of the system are never glowing. Sure, this federal election may eventually have an impact on state-funding (vis-a-vis service development/roll out), in either a positive or negative way. However, if we really valued the sick and injured in our communities, we would start to develop a major hospital centres on a bioregional scale governance structure, instead of relying on the broken and bickering state verses federal system. We live in hope.

On a more positive note, the first 'sod' was turned at our new $3/4-billion regional hospital recently. But even prior to this monster being unleashed, health care in Central Victoria is excellent when compared with other states. I count myself as very lucky, I only ever go to the doctor about once every three years for my 'annual' checkup (much to the chagrin of my Chinese-born Dr), and I have never spent a night in hospital (due to my own illness or injury) yet in my life. However, I am a secondary carer for the elders of our tribe, and as such I spend a fair amount of time in and out of GP's and the regional/state hospital supporting them with their various illnesses and ailments. I can say with all honesty, never have I seen our elders treated badly or having to wait inordinate ('7-years for a prostate issue' is criminal) amounts of time. Our elders do not buy into the 'private' system, nor are they 'war veterans'. They are simply 'aged pensioners' and rely on the same public system as most of us do. In every instance they have been treated with dignity and respect, and for specialist treatment (in one case a few years ago, a 5-section heart bypass operation), the 'world's best surgeon' performed the duty in an expeditious and thoroughly professional manner. None of which cost a cent (although we did leave a sizeable donation at the cancer centre)! Like I said, we are very, very lucky.

Of course, dental is whole other matter...

It's a sad indictment on our nation as a whole, Len, but perhaps you might have to move to a more accommodating state in order to get the best of health care?

    yes good points mark,

teh fed' gov' does dole out the gst revenue does it not, and they talk of fixing health and education etc.,. they did have a dental assistance scheme which they pulled out of due to hey! it blowing out in cost, wonder why, could it be dental care so far behind it needed to catch up 1st.

i can see other states get better help but surely those in those states would not like to be invaded by banana benders, plus it is a drastic move, i feel.

need to fix our own backyards 1st.

i've spent nights in hospitals, the care though under resourced is great, have issues with some of the food services and cleaning services people, but. and of course the best bit the system needs to bum's rush you out of the bed, suits me a work to that, i don't want to be away from home another minute. got more time to spend in their coming.

    take care

Good luck with it all, Len. I hope you and your fellow Queenslanders can someday get the health care you all deserve.

with collapse will come more isolation as people will not have as easy access to energy and devices for travel. so i suspect issues like immunity, disease, etc. to work themselves out as the larger cities break apart into enclaves and then the systems for protection and sharing food and other forms of care have a chance to reassert themselves.

It's going to be hard for people on medications that don't have a herbal equivalent. Personally I did a six month herbal medicine course and learnt how to make salves tinctures etc. Also trying to get as many herbs going as possible.

herbal medicines will only be a part of the picture. it might be possible to go back to the chemistry/pharmacy setup where the pharmacist has their own local lab for the manufacture of certain compounds. the challenge is to keep enough of the knowledge around that we don't lose the good things that knowledge can bring.

i also think that each neighborhood or area will develop their own healers once again but i would hope with much more actual knowledge than what was done before.

if a group is isolated it certainly makes a lot of sense to develop first aid and basic health-care knowledge in that group several layers deep. like basic wound care, how to set breaks, treat shock, etc. but beyond that how to recognize when other help is needed and ways for that other help to be available. fast sleds, dog teams, horse and buggy, or just riding or skiing as needed.

the challenge in all of this is that we don't really know how bad it will be until after it gets there, but once there coming back to some levels of knowledge and care for children, elderly, ill, etc. will still continue to define how humane a society really is.

i suspect the initial years of an abrupt collapse to be brutal, so i'm hoping for the long slow decline which would allow for alternatives to develop. though in the end, the real decline i am hoping for is just the decline in dumping of so much toxins into the world and declining the population so that areas can be left alone, rewilding certain areas, etc.

I also want to share something that, I do about this situation? Personally, I'm slowly building a body of knowledge about how I can 'treat' the symptoms of poor health among my own community, but the bulk of my work (to date, and for the foreseeable future) is concerned with planning 'healthy' communities as a preventative measure for all. Thanks to all who participate in this discussion.

    Hi,
Nice content.... seems to be very unique and useful for better health....Everyone is familiar with all-out energy drain that exhausted day or night when no matter how enticing that new movie, fabulous shoe sale, or friendly barbecue, we just cannot psych ourselves up to go.You may possibly also find it harder to concentrate on tasks, and, eventually, you can as well find your patience grows short and your level of frustration rises, even when confronted with seemingly simple challenges.
