I've got 8 acres in SE Texas. The land has never really been worked before from what I can tell although there is evidence of an old area for pigs.
I've got ants all over the property. I'm guessing they are pyramid ants but I haven't verified that yet. They form mounds in the hard clay soil and will get into any potted plant left on the ground. Sometimes they mound up around wood etc.
They are mostly an annoyance and especially when mowing. Is there a way to deal with them without using poison? By 'deal with them' I mean (I think) I'd like to see them gone. I'm just starting with this new way of thinking about things so I welcome your thoughts.

I've determined that the ants are imported fire ants. Still looking for ideas about how to minimize their presence.

there was another thread on this sort of topic not too long ago (last year). search and
see if you can find it.

i love ants, but i'm certainly glad i don't have to deal with those fire ants. having just
one bite me was plenty enough experience.

I searched using 'ants' as the keyword and didn't find anything. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the pointer.
