Danny Dorling: Maps that show us who we are (not just where we are)

What does the world look like when you map it using data? Social geographer Danny Dorling invites us to see the world anew, with his captivating and insightful maps that show Earth as it truly is — a connected, ever-changing and fascinating place in which we all belong. You’ll never look at a map the same way again.

The Permaculture Research Insitute

PRI Zaytuna Farm functions as a model farm (in development) and permaculture training facility. Geoff and Nadia Lawton, world-renowned permaculture educators and consultants, lead the project. Much of Geoff and Nadia’s time over the last few years has been spent away from the Institute, consulting and helping set up projects in diverse locales around the world. Seeing the worldwide demand for knowledgeable permaculture consultants and teachers increase exponentially, as fuel and fertiliser prices skyrocket and the effects of climate change, soil depletion and water shortages begin to hit hard, priority and focus is now shifting back to the Institute, where growing the training program will increase the output of quality teachers to help fill the growing need for them.

  1. My mother will love this! Getting it to her to show her will be a challenge, she is 400 miles away living with dementia, she is not computer active, but I am and when I can travel there I will sit and watch this with her. Many thanks. :)

  2. This is so wonderful! I’ve always thought there was more good news out there than bad, but try and find a newspaper called “The Good News”. I hope we see more of this. Keep spreading the productive information! Thank you!!

  3. Interesting, but some misinformation, in my opinion.

The first, that stopping eating meat will solve the world’s food problems. He did add to his statement afterwards as the problem being feeding grains and such to meat-producing animals. But there is a big difference between “meat” being the problem, and growing immense amounts of grains and soy monocrops and feeding those to animals. Animals that aren’t evolved to eat that diet anyways.

Second, his comment about there being no lack of water is misleading. We are running out of potable water supplies, through waste, climate changes, and industrial contamination.

Added on top of that is water privatization. Huge global corporations only are getting into water as an asset because it’s very valuable. Which means, increasing in demand – not a “non-issue”. One very eye-opening documentary on this subject is Blue Gold: World Water Wars.

If you haven’t watched it, please do!
