Permaculture Around Latin America – El Salvador

I’d like to invite you to join me as I feature short videos on permaculture locations, farms, and projects in all the countries that comprise Latin America.

To kick start this series, I’m featuring a video on the Permaculture Institute of El Salvador, or IPES, which has been operating since 2000. In the video, director Karen Inwood speaks about the demonstration site and how they have applied various permaculture principles.

Located in rural Suchitoto, IPES has been a relevant force in Latin as well as Central America, and has been active in training professionals and leaders from many countries. It has strong grass-roots beginnings and empowers small, subsistence farmers. It has also done amazing work to advance the Movimiento Campesino (‘Farmers’ Movement) in El Salvador, and is now focusing on teaching subsistence farming and sustainable techniques to families. You can find them on Facebook at Permaculture el Salvador.

  1. Is there a video in Spanish (or with Spanish subtitles) that is similar to this one? I’d like to share this video and one in Spanish on my bilingual blog. I especially like that this is on steeply sloped land – very useful to see how they’re working it. Thanks!
