Earthworks Course with David Spicer at Mudlark Permaculture (April 2012)

Mudlark Permaculture on the northern outskirts of Beaufort, in central Victoria, Australia, will be hosting a Permaculture Earthworks course in April from Monday 23 — Friday 27th, 2012.

Internationally experienced David Spicer will be teaching water harvesting and land repair techniques — the how to, where and why of dam, swale and spillway design and construction, laser and dumpy level surveying skills and the application of keyline and deep ripping for water infiltration.

David has a broad range of experience in the area of water harvesting and dam building and has taught permaculture and earthworks in the Dead Sea valley in Jordan, as well as Palestine and Morocco — some of the most water challenged places in the world. David has a vast knowledge of collecting and storing water in the harshest of climates and landscapes.

The course will be co-taught by Carolyn Payne, who will explain in detail the Mudlark Permaculture site, its design and planning processes. The property features a large wetland and dam complex, over 1 km of water harvesting swales and a newly constructed chinampa canal food growing system. Carolyn will also teach the skill of using a bunyip water level, grey water management, soakage pits, and reed bed systems.

The course will feature earthworks in progress over the week, giving an on-the-ground understanding of this type of design work.

The course cost of $950 includes all meals and basic camping facilities.
