Worldwide Permaculture Network</a>, with your support — which now enables us to see who is doing what, and where, and even <em>how</em> they’re doing it. We saw the Tenth International Permaculture Conference & Convergence (IPC10) come and go, and by all accounts it was a great success. And most importantly, we’ve done our darndest to help permaculture individuals and projects in some of the world’s neediest places. We even <a href="https://www.permaculturenews.org/2011/10/19/the-pri-restarts-the-permaculture-teacher-registry/">restarted the PDC Teacher registry</a>, so students can have choice in the quality of instruction and to protect the integrity/reputation of permaculture as we move forward into the next few challenging years.</p> <p><span id="more-6803"></span></p> <p>On the world stage, things have panned out largely <a href="https://www.permaculturenews.org/2011/01/08/glancing-at-the-crystal-ball-what-do-you-see/">as expected</a>. Bank bailouts, corporate bailouts, economic roller-coaster rides and revolutions are all now the norm — and the natural world is in such a dangerous state of flux you could be forgiven for wondering if balance can yet be restored. But, while <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16323666" target="_blank">the madness continues</a>, people are waking to the realisation that we stand looking at huge opportunities — opportunities to work with those around us to create an economic system that’s not based on self-interest and greed and wishful thinking, but rather on cooperation and synergies and ecological realities. Can we do it? Yes, of course we can. Will we do it? Well, that remains to be seen. It really depends on what kind of life we want to live, and how much we want it.</p> <p>It’s my hope that this year you’ll play your part in helping to move the world closer to some social, economic and ecological sanity. With the all-inclusive and developing design science that is permaculture, we have a way to ‘brand’ said sanity, so as to make it easier to package for driving into mainstream thinking. There is a wealth of knowledge housed in the minds and traditions of folk everywhere. We just need to study it, experiment with it and share it. I second the comments above that thank Craig for his tireless contribution to the movement. In both what we see online and what we don’t see behind the scenes.
I also resound Craig’s thanks to all those that have posted the diverse blogs that show up here. They have clarified permaculture knowledge for me, helped me get connected to resources and people and most importantly inspired me.
